about

The VRV label continues to test the boundaries of diversity with its latest tape release, Lean Trax Volume 1. Lean Trax was born from the anonymous / not so anonymous's producer's unfulfilled need for urban techno edits in the warehouse / club scene. Digging deeper into underground electronic music's history reveals techno’s role as a roots genre. When connected with the the adverse energy of hip-hop the combination yields results that are mostly unexplored. This project brings these worlds together with 5 tracks of focused, precise techno reimagining the swagger and bravado of some rap's most upfront tracks in current rotation. “Percocet” opens as a moody thumping jacker before re-pacing itself against Future's heavy lyrics, only to re-emerge in full-tempo catharsis. “Jumpman” takes this a widely known hit and repurposes it with '90s techno grit for a different kind of club use. “Drippin” features a forceful off-kilter drum track and somber synth motif which leaves plenty of room for vocoded boasting to take center stage. The dancehall styled “Not Nice" is altered here into a coarse tribal house tool which also features a soca mix that stays closer to the edit. “Like Dat” presents a deeper Detroit-inspired burner to compliment Kodak's southern drawl and trap style drum programming. All songs manipulated / assembled by Lean Trax. Contains elements from Suckut, Roberto, Savinto, Drake, Future, Kodak Black, Partynextdoor.
